This is your chance to increase your knowledge of pesticide safety when it comes to caring for our VERY IMPORTANT pollinator insects. Please

But, in an unscientific and entirely anecdotal poll, we're learning that
composters are more at peace with their own mortality and with the
ephemeral nature of organic matter in general. (Both living and nonliving).
Makes sense right?

East(*side!*) Lansing Food Co-op (ELFCO) will be re-opening in the Allen
Neighborhood Center on Lansing’s Eastside! This is an exciting step for the
cooperative, a partnership resulting from several years of working to keep
local and hyperlocal foods available in a grocery setting. ELFCO will focus
on providing local farmers and food producers a space to market products
throughout the week on a consignment basis… we provide the space and
coolers, farmers set their prices and provide the produce! It’s a simple
but effective model that increases access for eaters and sales for
producers.

Hello everyone,

If you are a farmer interested in taking anti-racist action, please fill out this survey as a first step in building a community: https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/farmersagainstracism

Fighting against racist systems and creating new systems can feel overwhelming to us as individuals. Real change happens when we work together. This survey gathers information on what farmers are interested in doing together to create a more just food system. Are you interested in increasing land access for BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, and People of Color) farmers? Are you interested in making your crops available to low-income people? During COVID 19 era we have heard of a whole range of challenges, problems, misfortunes and losses; human and economic.
These are challenging times but I think those of us who grow crops (and are healthy) are some of the most fortunate. Seeing life from the soil is always inspirational but now as people are losing jobs, businesses are being forced to close, wages are being docked, the soil keeps on giving.
If you would like to share some of these treasures from the soil (AKA food) here is a perfect opportunity-you can share some of the harvest with your

If you recall the Small business Association indicated that the COVID 19 government relief program, EIDL was not available to farmers. Through conversations and persistence, the change has come so farmers CAN apply for this program. I’m sure timeliness is of the essence. The bill should be signed this afternoon but if interested plan to attend one of the 2 upcoming webinars, on Monday and Wednesday. The registration link is below:

As part of the USDA Farm Bill there are cost shares, money that can be reimbursed to farmers for certain processes. The Organic Cost share is to reimburse farmers who have received their USDA organic certification this year. You can be reimbursed for EACH certification you received. For example. if you have poultry and vegetables and they both are certified-under two separate certifications, then you can complete forms to be reimbursed for both. This application is due by Oct 20, 2019. You must have your most recent organic certificate with you to apply

Try to keep the brix about 12 and the sap pH near 6.4 will do much to
prevent it. Copper deficiency may be a factor.

Refractometers $100.00- 120.00 no advantage to temperature compensation.
Sap pH meters $200.00 plus. Results in 10 minutes.

On a hot day the brix can change in a very short time due to
evaporation.

Tissue analysis may give guidance to nutrients needed.

Granted, we are a bit ahead of flowering in the southern tier for wheat so the risk might change somewhat (winter barley is at greater risk at the moment) We are having trouble getting the model to display the data consistently for some reason. Below is a commentary for the scab project that we will

Organic Commodity Crop Budgets

Hi.

I'm working on putting together enterprise budgets for organic commodity crops - corn, soy, winter wheat, oats, and barley.

I'm looking for farmer reviewers of those budgets. Would anyone be willing to look at my budgets and compare them to your costs?

Thanks in advance,

Bob Battel, MSU Extension Field Crops Educator
