John,

We don't currently offer transcriptions of voicemails to text (I'm assuming your faculty heard of the feature from Google Voice). We will be rolling out a new voicemail system for users on the Avaya Campus PBX this summer that has this feature as an add-on. We haven't decided if we will, or can use this add-on (it will require a round of legal review because of the nature of VM). More information will be coming out very soon about the conversion to the new voicemail system.

As a work-around, we do offer legally hearing-impaired users the ability to use a captioning telephone which would transcribe anything said over the phone (including voicemails). You can contact me offline for additional information about that solution.

Subject: [MSUNAG] Off the wall question

It seems this is my week to avail myself of the collective knowledge of MSU via the NAG list. So, first thanks for all the helpful information everyone sent regarding my AD /DNS question. I truly appreciate the responses you all sent. Now, my next question.

Is there a service that can provide transcription of voicemails and dump them in an email? One of my faculty is under the impression that this is a service offered by MSU, but I've never heard of it before. I can imagine it would be quite useful to someone who is hearing impaired, but I have no idea who might offer such a thing. Has anyone heard of a service like this offered on campus?
