The lead paint does matter, interestingly.  I've tested that several 
times now.
But the wire mesh is a killer.

OK, so you get a phone with an antenna jack, make an adaptor from that to a
100 ft run of LDF5-50 Heliax, to the antenna.  I actually know someone who
did that in Canada.  It works, and is totally nuts.  ;-)
