To clarify, Spinrite boots into DOS and so requires an IBM PC to run. However, it runs at the sector level on the drive and doesn’t care about format. So you can insert a drive from a Mac, iPod, Linux box, whatever, into a PC and repair it just fine.

I recommend 'GetDataBack" Runtime software. Last time I used it on a broken
hard drive it was quite effective. I was able to recover all user data from
the drive.
