Al,

As Leo mentioned, this particular network work was announced two days
in advance via Service Status. However, we should have taken additional
effort to notify our building contacts for Bessey Hall in addition to
using Service Status. This is a process that we used last year when we
rolled out the campus backbone network upgrades to each building, and we
will extend that process to cover other network changes which are
specific to a building where possible.

If you are not subscribed to Service Status, you may still wish to
do so. In addition to receving announcements such as this, you will
receive notices about general campus network changes and other key
campus systems and services. You can find instructions for this at
http://techbase.msu.edu/article.asp?id=7529&service=techbase.

At around 4:00 yesterday afternoon, a technician came to work in a phone closet that happens to be a few feet away from my office. I asked him what he was doing, and he informed me of the maintenance. I was able to issue a last minute, end of the day email, warning my staff.
