Instead of waiting for the system to warn you, be proactive and check the weather radar. The actual tornado warning area was well south of us. http://www.wunderground.com/ has a really good zoomable weather radar, and you can overlay the radar with the warning areas. Keep a radar site bookmarked on your mobile device (m.wund.com for mobiles works well).
