I will say Google has made strides over the past year in terms of being as transparent as they reasonably can be when they have an outage, how long they last, how many users are affected, and at least a reasonable explanation of what happened.

That's a far cry better than the responses (or lack thereof) from Google in the past.  It doesn't hurt that when Google goes down, the entire internet notices within seconds, of course.
