I believe I found an answer to this problem--see the discussion at: http://www.gossamer-threads.com/lists/exim/users/62829 I think the key point is the following quote from that discussion (referring to the text of the X-Spam-Report): "The report is just a configurable string, and the string you're seeing is the default report. The default report is only intended to be attached to a message if it scores above the threshold. If you wish to attach the report to all messages, then you should reconfigure the report string to be more neutral in tone in your spamassassin local.cf." That is basically the point that some of us are trying to make about the inappropriate wording of the message. It may be fine in the default configuration which only attaches X-Spam-Report to messages that score above 5. Since you have changed the default configuration to add this header to all messages, the message is now wrong. All you have to do is change the wording of it. -----Original Message----- From: MSU Network Administrators Group [mailto:[log in to unmask]] On Behalf Of Brian Martinez Sent: Monday, December 22, 2008 3:17 PM To: [log in to unmask] Subject: Re: [MSUNAG] "Possible spam" messages Folks, Beginning today, we turned spam processing on for all incoming email. That is to say all email that passes through our MX boxes. This it touched upon in our FAQ for the new mail.msu.edu here: http://techbase.msu.edu/article.asp?id=10902#s46349 What you are seeing is merely a "Spam Report" As I said, every single solitary message that goes through mx##.mail.msu.edu will get processed for it, regardless of if it is spam or not. If it is spam... it will be marked as such ***** SPAM ***** We feel the "Spam Report" is a useful tool when it comes time for troubleshooting. Thank you for your feedback. ./brm David McFarlane wrote: > And for the record, I see that my own post to MSUNAG about "possible > spam" messages also got labelled as "possible spam". So it goes. >
