So, if 100% of our dues goes to MEA/NEA, then all you need is to
how MEA/NEA spends the money.

(I know it’s old, but probably has not changed much.)

I’ve only been doing this union stuff for a year, but by being
active and listening I’ve found out that the above information is all
they have. Imagine if MEA had to break down their expenditures to report
how much they helped each local like MSU APA, although it seems that the
MSU specific portion is what most of you are asking for. Inconceivable, but
still troubling.
Here’s the start of your chart, collected from HR and NAG
posts:
Clerical Technical (CTU) 2hr/mo
Administrative Prof Assn (APA) $60/mo
Admin Prof Supervisory Assn (APSA) $15/mo
Service Maintenance AFSCME (1585) 2hr/mo
Skilled Trades AFSCME (999) 2hr/mo
Confidential (CONF)
Nurses (NURS)
Police Officers (FOP) 2hr/mo
Police Sergeant (FOP) 2hr/mo
Operating Engineers IUOE (547) $56/mo
Residence Life (RES)
Theater/Stage IATSE (274)
BTW, if our dues were a percentage of our salary, the MEA would
have incentive to bargain for as much increase in salary as possible (at the
cost of other benefits?).
Matt beat me to, The "Business of the APA
Union" (APA-MEA) mailing list (announcement only)”.

Good morning
This is a very narrow list that, in general, will not get
the answers you
are looking for on APA union issues. I suggest you
direct further posts on
the matter to the APA listserve at [log in to unmask]
where your concerns
will be heard by the appropriate folks and hopefully
addressed.

It
also became apparent that 100% of our dues go to the MEA/NEA, which then
provides services back to us. We do not keep any money in our
local. Any money that does end up in our accounts is due to accounting errors,
or delayed charges. This one really caught me by surprise as I would have
thought we would have set our selves up to set aside some money, just in case.
When
I compare how our union is doing to others in my department, the 999,
1585, APSA, CT, it just seems to me that the other unions are getting the
exact same benefits that we are, but our costs are much higher. I don't
believe (some please correct me on this one, as I didn't do the research), that
any of the other groups are affiliated with the MEA/NEA. The closest
group, cost wise that I'm aware of is the 999, but at the end of each year
their union returns the un-used portion of their general fund to their members
as cash (sometimes in the hundreds of dollars).
