This is a Del, on which I did a clean install of Vista; However, after
doing the install, I found out that the user wanted a second partition.

Thanks to everyone for all the suggestions. I'll see about disabling
the pagefile, etc and or downloading a linux CD. I suppose at this
point, since the machine is still relatively clean, it might be almost
as easy to simply reinstall; However now, it's become a matter of
principle. I'm not going to let this bloody OS dictate terms! :)

Subject: RE: [MSUNAG] Shrinking the primary partition in Vista?

I have had that same request when beta testing, and I found the best
thing was to start from scratch to get my Drives the sizes I needed. Is
this a prebuilt box from DELL or HP?

Subject: [MSUNAG] Shrinking the primary partition in Vista?

I'm trying to shrink, and then repartition a machine running Vista
Enterprise. The full capacity of the drive in question is 160 GB, and
over 100GB of drive space is currently available; However, I've tried
using diskpart, as well as the gui disk management tool, and in both
cases, Vista will only let me shrink the primary partition by 38 gigs.
I've disabled system restore, which I understand also disables shadow
copies, but Vista is being stingy, and still only wants to relinquish 38
gigs. Is there anything else I can do short of reinstalling the system
and initially partitioning the way I want?

Thanks,

Al
