I'm just not having these experiences with Vista. Vista is designed to
use all available memory (instead of 'saving it') by aggressively
caching. Mind you, I don't like the HD churning that goes on during a
fresh boot, but despite some interface quirks, I find Vista quite
likable and fairly reliable. It works well even on low grade integrated
graphics (such as the Intel GMA 3100). I don't really see much CPU
usage or RAM usage either for DWM or explorer, although I did a fresh
install on a newer Core 2 Duo laptop. With ram being so cheap nowadays,
does being a 'ram hog' matter that much? You can even get laptops with
2 gb of ram built in for under $700. I think part of the problem is
that the P4 architecture is such a poor performer, C2D is an order of
magnitude better. Even XP drags on a 3.4ghz P4. Vista is quite fast on
a lowly 2ghz C2D.
