I'm just not having these experiences with Vista. Vista is designed to use all available memory (instead of 'saving it') by aggressively caching. Mind you, I don't like the HD churning that goes on during a fresh boot, but despite some interface quirks, I find Vista quite likable and fairly reliable. It works well even on low grade integrated graphics (such as the Intel GMA 3100). I don't really see much CPU usage or RAM usage either for DWM or explorer, although I did a fresh install on a newer Core 2 Duo laptop. With ram being so cheap nowadays, does being a 'ram hog' matter that much? You can even get laptops with 2 gb of ram built in for under $700. I think part of the problem is that the P4 architecture is such a poor performer, C2D is an order of magnitude better. Even XP drags on a 3.4ghz P4. Vista is quite fast on a lowly 2ghz C2D. http://deals.gotapex.com/?WOTEQWYY http://deals.gotapex.com/?XC4UQ98W Scott Cassaday wrote: > We have been testing vista at IMC since may. > > ----- Original Message ----- > *From:* Richard Wiggins <mailto:[log in to unmask]> > *To:* [log in to unmask] <mailto:[log in to unmask]> > *Sent:* Friday, September 21, 2007 11:16 AM > *Subject:* [MSUNAG] Windows Vista Aero transparency CPU costs > > I upgraded to Windows Vista a couple months ago because I needed > to experience it in order to write about it and understand what > customers are going through. > > My Thinkpad Z61t has been sluggish compared to running XP, > something documented in the trade press.
