This issue of off site backup storage and begs a follow up to the original question. Why are individuals still talking about disaster recovery data storage sites? Why don't all the IT groups on campus get together and request funds for a secure off site storage or server option? Why should this be the problem of individual departments? All that is needed is a alarmed and monitored secure hole in the ground with lockable wire mesh cages for each IT group. Any new building project on campus could incorporate a data vault. New buildings are being proposed. How do we get to the planners to add a simple underground vault to the side of a new buildings foundation? A bank vault isn't complicated.
