This could be an issue with the way name servers record a lack of response from a remote name server. For a period of time, both Tuesday afternoon and again Wednesday morning, none of the name servers for "msu.edu" were reachable from the Internet. It's possible that some of the remote name servers have recorded that fact, in an attempt to reduce Internet traffic to non-functional name server addresses. If so, I would expect the problem to have cleared within 24 hours, so by now, I would think the problem should be gone. If your users are still having trouble, I can check into it, if you can tell me the user's IP address and the settings for their name server addresses.
