The defective HD on the 5th computer is identified as a "ST...", which I 
think is Seagate Technologies (sorry, I don't have the computer here to 
check that).  Western Digital models usually start with "WDC.."

>What was the defective hardware?   Was it the same for all the units.

Four of them are HDs.  Someone else did the work on the other one, from 
their report Dell is replacing the entire unit.

>Did Dell replace/repair them in a timely manner?

Dell replaced three HDs on site, took away the problem drives (containing 
all our data), and installed no software (not even the OS).  As said above, 
the report is that Dell is sending an entire unit to replace one 
machine.  For the fifth I asked that they just send a new HD and let me 
take it from there, that way I can salvage anything off the old HD first.
