Sadly, this would remove the ability to browse the past posts in the
archive.  The archive is a great source of information and helps prevent
repeat issues from hitting the list.  Also, I often find the best answer to
a problem is given long after the post, due to the right person being out
of the office at the moment of the posted question.

Given these reasons, I would be saddened to see a significant number of the
NAG membership migrate to IM.
