First, my apologies to all. In my frantic desparation to get some information on computer security, I went to the security.msu.edu page, clicked on Mailing Lists, and saw the Security discussion paragraph as follows: "Security discussion The MSU-security mailing list is for general security and virus discussions. This list is not moderated, and is meant to foster communication throughout the university. Those wishing to interactively discuss security issues, or ask for advice on virus and security issues are encouraged to <http://list.msu.edu/cgi-bin/wa?SUBED1=msu-security&A=1>subscribe. List archives may be found <http://list.msu.edu/archives/msu-security.html>here." I clicked on the final "here" and saw that the archive ended in April 2003. Still desparate, I went to subscribe anyway; however, I slipped and clicked on "Sign up <http://list.msu.edu/cgi-bin/wa?SUBED1=msunag&A=1>here" under the Administrator discussion paragraph! That sent me here to MSUNAG, which is indeed very much alive, but does not focus on security. I did not notice my error until I was on the phone with the computer lab, describing to them how the security discussion subscription link subscribed me to the wrong list, and then noticed that the msu-security listserv link was still "blue" while the MSUNAG link was now "purple". Sheesh! Mea culpa. So now I've tried to subscribe to the msu-security list, but that one indeed seems to be dead. That's too bad, because I really need to talk about security, and the resources on the web sites are far too weak for my needs. And if msu-security is dead, someone needs to notify the webmaster to revise the page so as to not mislead idiots like me. I don't know how to do that, so I've sent this message to you all. My work is done. -- David McFarlane [log in to unmask]
