For what it's worth, I don't typically don't have time on a daily basis to
go fishing around forums to see if I might be interested in something.
Emails are a normal part of my daily work flow and scanning a few extra
messages doesn't take up any time at all. It also provides me with a 1
second way to file items of interest and a 5 second way to add items to my
calendar with appropriate reminders. Works for me...

Some forums will permit read-only access without logging in. Those are
probably going to be the only ones it'll work for.
