2024 Seasonal Position with the

Grand Valley State University’s Annis Water Resources Institute



Position: GVSU hourly employee located at the Hunt Creek Trout Research Area,

Lewiston, Michigan. This is a seasonal position. This research project is a collaboration between Dr. Troy Zorn at the Michigan Department of Natural Resources and Dr. Carl Ruetz at Grand Valley State University.



Wage: Hourly pay rates $16.93-$17.93 depending on experience.



Location: Michigan Department of Natural Resources’ Hunt Creek Trout Research Area; housing will be provided onsite at no cost.



Duration: Full-time (up to 840 hours), beginning in late April or early May. Ideal start date April 21. End date in September. Daily work hours can be flexible.



Duties: Various duties associated with a field study examining survival of Arctic Grayling and interspecific interactions between Arctic Grayling and wild trout. Tasks include: clean and maintain weirs associated with experimental stream reaches; conduct stream electrofishing surveys; quantify stream habitat; maintain in-stream incubation baskets with Arctic Grayling eggs; make behavioral observations on fish in experimental stream reaches; record, enter, and summarize data; and other duties as assigned. Opportunity to develop an independent research project within the scope of the overall project.



Requirements: Applicants should be a self-starting, highly-motivated individual interested in performing fisheries or aquatic ecology related field work with the capacity to work independently as well as part of a team. Field work will involve strenuous physical labor; the candidate must be able to lift heavy objects, work outdoors, and work in all types of weather. Experience with equipment repair and trouble-shooting issues associated with field experiments is preferred. Preference will be given to applicants with prior fisheries/aquatics field experience and knowledge of Microsoft Office. Academic coursework, work experience, and other skills are also considered. Work schedule is flexible but may include weekends. Travel expenses will be provided for any out-of-area travel.
