 AIB UKI 2024 CONFERENCE AIB SUSTAINABILITY SIG PRE-CONFERENCE WORKSHOP “Partnering to Deliver Sustainability Work Packages” Would you like to explore research and teaching ideas on sustainability and IB? Are you looking for co-authors for a new project? Do you have an idea for a paper but not sure how to take it forward? If the answer to any these questions is “yes”, then this workshop is for you. Following our successful knowledge sharing roundtable online discussions, this workshop is intended to create a friendly and open space for like-minded colleagues to interact and network with each other by sharing their research ideas, questions, challenges, and/or findings. The workshop embraces open research that is organised around ‘work packages’. During this workshop, you will work within small teams on a work package and develop a tangible output. The format of the output can range from a publication project, a SI call for papers, an application to a funding call (e.g., the AIB Research Funding Grants program), to the creation of a focused symposium. The format of the output is decided by each group. The development of the output is facilitated by the structure of the workshop. Teams will receive feedback from the SIG on an interim output before they present. The work packages: The packages are loosely organised around four themes below: · MNEs, SDGs & CSR. Given the significant role MNEs can play in economic development and are expected to play in sustainable development, IB scholars have underscored the need for firms to behave ethically, responsibly and sustainably. It therefore is important for the AIB community to advance theory on sustainable and responsible IB-focused organizations and the relationship between MNEs, global organizations and sustainability. Does the IB community need to borrow theoretical frameworks with related disciplines to advances a more impactful theorisation of MNEs and their relationship with SDGs? · Sustainability along a global value chain. What role play global value chains in achieving sustainability across borders. The concept of global value chains describes the full range of activities carried out by firms and workers across industries and geographies to produce, recycle and dispose of goods and services. The global value chain perspective provides a useful framework to analyse multiple dimensions and interconnected complexities pertaining to sustainability. But how realistic are IB assumptions of control and coordination of global value chains? And what are the implications of such assumption for policy makers? · Circular Economy in IB. The Ellen MacArthur Foundation has defined circular economy around three principles: designing-out waste and pollution in economic activity; keeping products and materials in use; and regenerating natural systems. As a result, a circular economy will redefine growth and focus on positive society-wide benefits. How can circular economy principles be embedded in international business activities and how are they affecting the involved economies? · Sustainable international business peda <>gogy. Teaching and learning about, and research on, sustainable development in the IB community is evolving and often informed by developments outside traditional IB pedagogy or research. While it is increasingly observed that sustainability as a topic area is integrated into IB programs across universities worldwide, embedding sustainable international business pedagogy raises questions concerning the structure, content and objectives of IB courses and programs. How can sustainable international business pedagogy address concerns around pluralism, inclusivity, decolonialism, and normativism.
