Dear friends and colleagues,

Are you stuck for something to give your partner for Valentine’s Day? Perhaps you could treat her/him to the latest issue of International Business Review!

The issue starts with a Special Section on “MNE non-market strategy: complexities and varieties”, guest edited by Taz Rajwani, Tahiru Liedong, Tom Lawton & Vikrant Shirodkar. The editors provide persuasive arguments that MNEs should adopt more authentic and culturally-embedded values-based non-market strategies. Meanwhile, the other four articles provide important insights into MNEs’ non-market strategies in history; populism and the creation of corporate political obligations; non-market strategies in weak institutional environments; and how MNE challenges through the investor state dispute settlement (ISDS) process impacts their social license to operate.

The ten regular articles include a review of the knowledge-based view in international business; four papers on HR-related issues (i.e. human resource slack and firm innovation; cross-cultural effects of employee commitment on firm performance; cultural identity threats for skilled migrants in MNEs; and the positive and negative impacts of foreign language use on team creativity); and two on cross-border investments (location advantages for digital M&As; and the impact of experience on agglomeration). The three remaining articles focus on adaptive governance and GVC resilience; the effects of institutions on the ownership structure of MNE investments; and SME export marketing strategy and performance.

Planty there for your partner to enjoy! S/he will be grateful forever.

Best wishes

Roger Strange & Fang Lee Cooke (IBR Editors-in-Chief)
