Michigan Department of Natural Resources Fisheries Division Waterford Fisheries Station 2024 Seasonal Position Position: Short-term State Worker located at the Michigan Department of Natural Resources (DNR) Waterford Fisheries Station, 7806 Gale Road. Waterford, MI 48327. This is a temporary, non-career position. Wage: State worker hourly pay rates are $15.00 for first-time workers or those with less than 400 hours of previous DNR experience; $16.08 with 400+ hours of DNR experience in 2023, and $17.15 with 400+ hours of DNR experience in each of 2022 and 2023. Duration: Up to 1040 hours. Between April and September. The actual starting and ending dates are flexible. Duties: Principal duties are to assist with field collection of data on fish communities, fish habitats, and water quality on both inland and Great Lakes waters. Candidate will also assist with fish rearing and stocking, rearing pond maintenance, equipment and facility maintenance, fabrication and maintenance of entrapment gear, Invasive species monitoring, and other duties as assigned. Qualifications: Applicants should be self-starting, highly-motivated individuals interested in performing fisheries-related fieldwork that often involves strenuous physical labor. Candidate must be able to lift heavy objects and work outdoors in all types of weather. Small boat handling and trailering skills are desired. Preference will be given to applicants with prior fisheries field experience, general knowledge of fish identification, and experience with power equipment. Academic coursework, work experience, and other skills will be considered. Must be at least 18 years old, possess a current Michigan driver’s license and have an excellent driving record. Work schedule will include various shifts and some weekends. Travel expenses will be provided for any out-of-area travel.
