The ODNR Division of Wildlife is looking for applicants to assist with Lake Erie fisheries assessment and research projects. We are seeking motivated individuals that excel at working both independently and in a team environment, have demonstrated an interest in a career in fisheries management, and have strong interpersonal skills; a total of 12 seasonal positions are available for applicants at two different duty stations: Sandusky, OH (8) and Fairport Harbor, OH (4).



Field Technician

Duties: Assist with fisheries fieldwork (bottom trawling, gill netting, electrofishing, etc.) aboard Lake Erie research vessels; collect and process samples from harvested fish, including length, weight, sex, maturity, and diets; record data in the lab and in the field; examine sport and commercial harvest for tags; collect age/length data from angler-caught fish; age fish by otoliths; perform water quality, benthic, habitat and hydroacoustic sampling; assist with fisheries research projects and AIS removal efforts; assist with facility/vessel maintenance. Preference will be given to applicants that have completed a B.S. or B.A. in Fisheries, Natural Resources, or related field.

Applicant must be:
- A minimum of 18 years old
- A holder of a valid driver’s license

Work Hours: 40 Hours/Week (will include long days and occasional weekends); 1000 hrs. maximum duration.
Wage: $17.74/hour.
Positions Available: Fairport Harbor – 2; Sandusky – 2.
Position Duration: May through October.

Creel Clerk

Duties: Interview anglers at boat ramps, marinas and access points along a pre-determined route and schedule; collect data from anglers on their fishing location, length of trip, species caught/kept/released; collect lengths from harvested fish; collect interview data using electronic or paper survey forms; retain records and samples in a neat and secure manner until delivered to supervisor.

Applicant must be:
- A minimum of 18 years old
- A holder of a valid driver’s license
- Able to use a personal vehicle during the creel survey (mileage reimbursed)
- Able to manage and organize interview data
- Able to use provided electronic devices for data collection/entry

Work Hours: 40 Hours/Week (will include weekends); 1000 hrs. maximum duration.

Wage: $17.74/hour; mileage reimbursement currently $.58/mile.

Positions Available: Fairport Harbor – 2; Sandusky – 2.

Position Duration: March, April, or May through October.
