2024 Summer Fisheries Positions with the Michigan Department of Natural Resources 2 Positions: Seasonal State Worker: one position with Marquette Fisheries Research Station and one position with Marquette Tribal Coordination Unit (TCU) Wage: State worker hourly pay rates are $15.00 for first-time workers or those with less than 250 hours of previous MDNR experience; $16.08 with 250+ hours of MDNR experience in 2023, and $17.15 with 250+ hours of MDNR experience in each of 2022 and 2023. Location: Both positions located at Marquette Fisheries Research Station; Marquette Duration: Part time (up to 40 hrs. per week) for up to 24 weeks, Spring and Summer (start date is negotiable – between mid-April and early May). Daily work hours can also be flexible. Duties: Principal duties are to assist with field sampling and laboratory work for fisheries assessment surveys, including the collection of angler, fish, and habitat information. Candidates may also assist with fish rearing and fish loading for stocking, equipment and facility maintenance, computer data entry, and data quality assurance/quality control. Candidates will learn field skills related to fish collections and use organizational, data management, and interpersonal skills. Other related work duties may be assigned. Qualifications: Applicants should be self-starting, highly motivated individuals interested in performing fisheries-related fieldwork that often involves strenuous physical labor. Candidate must be able to lift heavy objects up to 50 lbs. and work outdoors in all types of weather. Small boat handling and trailering skills are preferred. Preference will be given to applicants with prior fisheries field experience, general knowledge of fish identification, and knowledge of Microsoft Office 2010. Academic coursework, work experience, and other skills also preferred. Applicants must be at least 18 years old by starting date of employment. Work schedule will include various shifts and some weekends. Travel expenses will be provided for any out-of-area travel.
