Great Lakes Sea Grant and GLERL Liaison

Position Overview

Provides regionwide leadership and programming expertise on Great Lakes coastal resilience as a liaison between the Great Lakes Sea Grant (GLSG) network and National Oceanic Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) Great Lakes Environmental Research Laboratory (GLERL).

Focused on Great Lakes coastal resilience, this position will identify, design, implement, and evaluate research-based programs that meet current and projected outreach needs. This includes having regionwide responsibilities and collaborating across GLSG network and GLERL programs to (1) facilitate information exchange, integration, and partnerships, and (2) develop collaborative Extension, communications, and outreach programs. For example, facilitating engagement for community-informed development of the GLERL coastal inundation and mapping resources, lake level forecasting, or other data modeling tools and training programs to enable GLSG professionals to effectively educate communities on the application of these resources to inform decision-making for Great Lakes coastal resiliency.

Although negotiable, there will be space available for this position to work from the NOAA GLERL facility in Ann Arbor, MI, pending federal credentialing process. The primary service area for this position is MSU Extension District 12, however, program coverage area is the Great Lakes region.

This position may be eligible to utilize a flexible work environment, however, there is an expectation to work from a MSU Extension or partner’s office, such as the NOAA GLERL facility. The needs, responsibilities, and opportunities of an individual’s position and office location drive the ability and amount of work- location flexibility.
