Call for Applications: Open Research Laboratory at Illinois
The Russian, East European, and Eurasian Center (REEEC) and the Slavic Reference Service (SRS) at the University of Illinois are pleased to announce a new call
for applications to the Open Research Laboratory (ORL) program. This year's ORL will take place
January 16 - May 1, 2024.
The ORL provides research support for graduate and post-graduate level research on Central and East Europe and the Independent States of the former Soviet Union,
and provides support for both in-person and virtual associateships.
ORL support includes:
- Reference assistance from SRS for general and specialized queries throughout the spring and beyond;

Access to our Library’s digital and database collections for an extended period;

Use of the Library's technological resources, including a free of charge duplication service for University of Illinois Library materials, limited to 20
pages per request and subject to copyright restrictions;

Invitations to participate in virtual scholarly programming (lectures, workshops, etc.);

The help of REEEC staff in answering logistical questions related to your visit.

Associates may apply for personalized bibliographic sessions with SRS.
Funding:

US citizens
are eligible for Title VIII funding as either an in-person or a virtual associate.

An in-person associate
is eligible for a $1250 research stipend in support of their work, a housing grant of up to 5 nights of on-campus housing at the shared rate, and a travel grant of up to $850 of round-trip transportation costs to and from Urbana-Champaign.
A virtual associate is eligible for a research stipend of $625 in support of their work.
Priority Application Deadline: November 26, 2023
REEEC will continue to accept applications after the priority deadline, but these applications will be at a lower priority for funding.
