According to a recent report by World Bank and WTO services sector generates half of the employment worldwide and contributes two-thirds of the global GDP.  The share of services sector increased from 53 percent to 67 percent between 1970 and 2021.

In 2021 trade in goods grew by 9.7% while trade in services increased by 17%, this clearly indicates that trade in services is growing at a much faster pace as compared to trade in goods. Also, services trade promotes greater inclusiveness, in 2021, 9 out of 10 services firms were MSMEs.
