Please consider submitting an abstract to the AGU Session: B067. Science-based Carbon Removal: Strategies, Monitoring, Measurements, Reporting and Verification across Terrestrial, Atmospheric, Oceanic and Societal Dimensions
The 2023 IPCC the Sixth Assessment (AR6) synthesis report concluded with high confidence that in order to achieve net zero CO2 or greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, some hard-to-abate residual GHG emissions (e.g., from agriculture, aviation, shipping,
and industrial processes) would need to be counterbalanced by deployment of carbon dioxide removal (CDR) methods. This is in addition to substantial and rapid reduction of GHG emissions from all sectors. In this context, this session will feature the latest
CDR science, with a focus on the scientific basis for carbon monitoring, measurements, reporting and verification (MMRV), for effective and efficient CDR strategies with embedded societal values. We welcome abstracts on nature-based and/or technological CDR
research and approaches that could inform innovative and timely strategies for multi-agency (U.S. government and international) collaborations and partnerships with the non-federal sector (e.g., foundations, industries, venture capitals, non-profits, universities,
states).
