Dear Fellow AIB Members,

Please find below sketches for three possible panels for this year's EIBA
Conference in Lisbon, Portugal, on 15-17 December. The theme of this
year's conference is The Changing Global Power Balance: Challenges for
European Firms, and the proposed panels are targeted for 3 of the 14 tracks.

The deadline for submissions is July 15th, so if you are interested in
participating in any of these panels, please respond to this email by the
end of June. The final shape and substance of the panel proposal will be
determined by the nature of what the panelists will be contributing to them

Panel 1, track 3, MNEs, Corporate Social Responsibility and Sustainable
Development

Proposed Topic: MNEs and Sustainability: How Far Have They Come? How Far
Do They Need to Go?

Description: The purpose of this panel is to first assess what MNEs,
particularly European-based MNEs, have done – the good and the not so good
– to work toward Agenda 2030 since 2015, and then use that as a springboard
to discuss what more is needed. Among the topics and research evidence
that could be addressed with respect to how far they have come could be how
MNEs have integrated sustainability initiatives throughout their value
chains, how they have melded corporate social responsibility and
sustainability into their operating philosophies, and how they are
decarbonizing in the face of differing regulatory regimes in host and home
countries.

Panel 2, track 5, International Value Chains and Inter-firm Networks

Proposed Topic: COVID-19 Plus 3; Ukraine Plus 2: What Has Been Learned?

Description: First the COVID-19 pandemic and then the Ukraine war have
caused MNEs to rethink how they are organized, how they are managed, how
they access the resources needed for the production of goods and services,
and how those goods and services are produced within their inter-firm
networks and global value chains. The response to both shocks has been a
crucible on which to test new approaches and new ideas, and the purpose of
this panel is to provide different perspectives on what has been learned,
how new approaches, especially those involving digitalization, have been
implemented, and how new technologies such as artificial intelligence can
be applied to make MNEs (with a focus on Europea MNEs) more resilient to
future shocks.

Panel 3, track 13, Teaching in International Business

Proposed Topic: Using Teaching About the SDGs in International Business to
Break Down Silos and Revolutionize Teaching in It

Description: The underlying premise of this panel is four-fold. First,
teaching international business (IB) in the 21st century has become, and
will continue to be, more complicated largely due to the complexity and
interconnectedness of the problems and issues that IB will be facing.
Second, because the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) are interconnected
by design, using them as a framework for IB education is beneficial.
Third, IB should have as a core mission helping to deliver the private
sector’s promise about achieving the SDGs. And fourth, IB teaching can
leverage its experience with looking at other disciplines through an IB
lens to expand into more complex and interconnected areas. This panel will
bring together international business educators who are using highly
interconnected techniques, ideally with an SDG focus, to illustrate
transformative IB teaching practices.

Looking forward to working with you on these topics.

Best regards,

John Dilyard
