How do you write a high-impact paper? Is a high-impact article impactful from the moment it is submitted by the authors or do such papers become impactful as a result of interactions with reviewers and editors?

To answer these questions, this webinar will discuss the anatomy and evolution of the 2023 JIBS Decade Award-winning article titled “Global cities and multinational enterprise location strategy<https://link.springer.com/article/10.1057/jibs.2013.11>”. The program will trace the progression of the paper's original formulation and describe how it evolved throughout the review process.

PRESENTERS

Dana Minbaeva is a Professor of Human Resource Management at King’s Business School. King’s College of London, UK. She also has a part-time appointment at Copenhagen Business School, Denmark. Her research on strategic and international HRM has appeared in such top international journals as Academy of Management Review, Journal of International Business Studies, Journal of Management Studies, Human Resource Management, and many others. Professor Minbaeva published over 70 articles in international peer reviewed journals, numerous book chapters and reports. She received several national and international awards to research achievements, including the prestigious JIBS Decade Award 2013. Professor Minbaeva is a Fellow of the Academy of International Business (AIB).

Ram Mudambi is the Frank M. Speakman Professor of Strategy at the Fox School of Business, Temple University, Philadelphia, USA, and Research Director of Temple CIBER. Previously he served on the faculties of Case Western Reserve University, the University of Reading (England), and the University of North Carolina – Chapel Hill. He earned his M.Sc.(Econ) from the London School of Economics and his Ph.D. from Cornell University. His current research focuses on the geography of innovation, particularly in the contexts of migration, digitalization, and emerging economies. He is a Fellow of the Academy of International Business (AIB) and of the European International Business Academy (EIBA). He is an Area Editor at the Journal of International Business Policy. He is a consulting editor at the Journal of International Business Studies.

Christian Geisler Asmussen is a Professor of Strategic and International Management at Copenhagen Business School, from where he holds his PhD degree. Drawing on formal modelling, game theory, and theories of the firm, his research revolves around competitive advantage, globalization, and the organization of multinational companies. His current research interests include foreign location choices and global corporate social responsibility. Christian’s research has been published in top peer-reviewed journals including the Journal of International Business Studies, Strategic Management Journal, Organization Science, and the Journal of Management. His work has been awarded multiple prizes including the Barry Richman Best Dissertation Award and the Haynes Prize. He serves on the editorial review boards of the Strategic Management Journal and Journal of International Business Studies, in the latter of which he has also guest-edited a special issue on Internalization Theory.

Allan Bird is a Senior Professor in the OB/HRM group at the Goa Institute of Management (GIM). Prior to his arrival at GIM, he was the Associate Vice President for International Affairs at Pacific University. He held the Darla and Frederick Brodsky Trustee Professor in Global Business at Northeastern University for ten years from 2009 to 2019. Previously he was the Ei’ichi Shibusawa-Seigo Arai Professor of Japanese Studies and also served as Director of the International Business Institute and Director of the International MBA program in the College of Business at the University of Missouri-St. Louis. He has held Visiting Professor positions at Columbia University, Rikkyo University, Monterey Institute for International Studies, Seinäjoki University of Applied Sciences in Finland, Osaka International University, and Japan’s National Self Defense Academy. He has also served on the faculty of the Summer Institute for Intercultural Communication. He teaches courses in global leadership development, intercultural management, and intercultural and global leadership assessment.

MODERATOR

Sjoerd Beugelsdijk (PhD Tilburg University, 2003) is a full professor in international business at the Faculty of Economics and Business of the University of Groningen in the Netherlands. He is an expert on economic globalization and cultural diversity. He has published more than 50 refereed articles in journals such as the Journal of International Business Studies, Journal of Management, Journal of Management Studies, Organization Science, Entrepreneurship Theory and Practice, Journal of Cross-Cultural Psychology, and Regional Studies and Journal of Economic Geography, 5 books (with MIT Press and Cambridge University Press) and made many contributions to edited books.
