Dear AIB member,

As part of the partnership between the Academy of International Business (AIB) and UNCTAD, AIB will organize one or two sessions at UNCTAD’s World Investment Forum (WIF), which will take place in Abu Dhabi on October 16-20, 2023. We are seeking AIB scholars who wish to present their current research at the WIF on the conference theme of “Investing in Sustainable Development”.

To be considered for an AIB panel, authors should send a current paper on the topic to [log in to unmask]<mailto:[log in to unmask]> by midnight (EDT) on May 1st, 2023. The selection committee will choose papers based on the quality of the manuscript, its fit with the conference theme, and the “pitch” that it provides to the WIF audience. The criterion for the last point is whether the authors have something to say that business and policy people at the WIF have not heard before and that will be of value to business/policy.

It is important to note that this year’s WIF will be entirely in person. AIB or UNCTAD do not cover the travel expenses or lodging costs of authors who are accepted to present in the panels.
Organized biennially, the UNCTAD World Investment Forum (WIF) is the leading, high-level global event addressing international investment, government policy, and the impact of investment on sustainable development. The last forum gathered more than 6,600 stakeholders from 160 countries in over 80 events. The 2023 edition of the WIF, which will take place immediately ahead of global talks on climate change at COP28 in the same location, will include a focused track on promoting climate finance and investment. The forum will provide policymakers and other stakeholders with the opportunity to find solutions and reach consensus on climate finance and investment priorities over the course of five days, with outcomes feeding into the COP negotiations. The preliminary programme will be available on their website soon: https://worldinvestmentforum.unctad.org<https://urldefense.com/v3/__https:/worldinvestmentforum.unctad.org__;!!IKRxdwAv5BmarQ!OkcJlPL0FSNOvEEoBXLyivnv3vPHZpR__1vWqA5ydlYYG2gvyFzTFn2LwbB10JctxPkpKNFUW7df$>. While we encourage submissions on the topic of climate finance, the AIB session will focus on the more general theme of investing in sustainable development.

Best regards,

Ari
