Ivan ------------------------------------ PhD Assistantship: Ecology of activity patterns in mammals – Texas State University I am looking for a highly motivated PhD student to integrate to an active research group centered in the ecology and evolution of activity patters of mammal species, and how do the outcomes of new findings are relevant to community structure, conservation, and disease ecology. Specific research questions are flexible within this area and will be dependent on specific research interests of the student. The basis of analyses will mostly consist of records from camera trapping that will be evaluated in a highly interspecific comparative context. Thus, a student with a highly quantitative and integrative mindset is an asset and one well suited for this project. Required Qualifications: • Bachelor and Master’s degree in wildlife science, biology, conservation or related fields. • >3.5 GPA for both degrees. • Highly quantitative aptitude and statistical knowledge. • Excellent writing ability (e.g., previous work on thesis or publications). • Previous experience conducting research. • Excellent knowledge about taxonomy/ecology of tropical mammals worldwide. • Must be self-motivated, organized, responsible and able to work within a team centered on this topic. • Must be willing to learn quickly relevant and specific analytical methods. Preferred qualifications (all not strictly needed but would be great assets). • Experience working with camera traps both in the field and for data processing derived from this work. • Experience with GIS. • Experience or familiarity with the use of null models in ecology. Support for this PhD position will be through a combination of Research and Teaching assistantship starting in Summer 2023 (deferral to fall is possible). Assistantship will provide a 12-month support and will include tuition remission (about 85% of this cost) and is renewable for up to four years upon satisfactory degree progress.
