Technical Positions in Aquatic Ecology/Fisheries Ecology Aquatic Ecology Laboratory The Ohio State University Columbus, OH Job Description: Up to two full-time technician positions are available to assist on a on a field- and laboratory- based research project that is designed to help the Ohio Division of Wildlife understand the cause of reduced yellow perch angling success in western Lake Erie. This project requires extensive field sampling during summer (June-October) for adult yellow perch, zooplankton, and habitat on Lake Erie. Laboratory and computer work (e.g., zooplankton counting, diet processing, data entry and plotting) will occur when not in the field. One of the two incumbents will serve as the head technician of the project. Opportunities to help with data analysis, manuscript writing, and/or student mentorship may exist, depending on the incumbent’s experience. Qualifications: Successful applicants will be creative, motivated, and capable of working effectively both independently and in collaborative groups. A master’s degree is preferred, particularly for the head technician role, but not required. Applicants must have completed a bachelor’s degree or plan on graduating this May 2023 in the biological sciences or a related field. All candidates should have a background or interest in fish ecology, be able to conduct field sampling from a boat in rough conditions, be flexible enough to spend long days and/or nights sampling, and be willing and capable of performing standard laboratory procedures. Prior aquatic field sampling experience is required. Compensation: $17.10 - $22.50 per hour, depending on experience, plus a comprehensive benefits package. Funding exists for 6 months to 1 year, depending your availability, with the possibility of staying on longer pending satisfactory completion of the job and continued funding.
