Presenters

Dana Minbaeva is a Professor of Human Resource Management at King’s Business School. King’s College of London, UK. She also has a part-time appointment at Copenhagen Business School, Denmark. Her research on strategic and international HRM has appeared in such top international journals as the Academy of Management Review, Journal of International Business Studies, Journal of Management Studies, Human Resource Management, and many others. Professor Minbaeva published over 70 articles in international peer-reviewed journals, numerous book chapters, and reports.  She received several national and international awards for research achievements, including the prestigious JIBS Decade Award 2013. Professor Minbaeva is a Fellow of the Academy of International Business (AIB).

Helena Barnard is a full professor at GIBS (University of Pretoria) and responsible for the GIBS doctoral programs. She developed the proposal leading to the Academy of Management, the leading professional organization for management scholars, conducting its first-ever conference outside of North America at GIBS in Johannesburg in January 2013. She was the Academy of International Business (AIB) Vice President for Administration (2017 to 2020) and is currently the founding chairperson of the Emerging Markets Special Interest Group of AIB. From 2018 to 2019, she was the Dunning Fellow at the John H Dunning Centre for International Business at the University of Reading. Prof Barnard is an area editor for the Journal of International Business Policy.  Prof Barnard has published in the Journal of Management, Journal of International Business Studies, Research Policy, Journal of World Business, and others. Her research interests are in how knowledge (and with-it technology, organizational practices, and innovation) moves between more and less developed countries, particularly in Africa.

Maria Tereza Leme Fleury is a full professor of International Management at Fundação Getulio Vargas (FGV). She is a Fellow and current president of the Academy of International Business. She is the director of the Center for International Competitiveness. She was dean of the FGV School of Business Administration (2008 -2015) and the USP -School of Economics and Business Administration  (2002- 2006). She was a Research Fellow at the Institute for Manufacturing at Cambridge University, UK; the Institute of Development Studies, University of Sussex, UK, Institute for Developing Economy Japan, and a visiting professor at ESSEC, France. She has published 25 books and more than 100  articles. on International Business, Strategy and Competency Management, International Strategy and Management, Human Resources Management. Her recent research focuses on emerging market and digital transformation, global value chains, and UN SDGs.

Sarah Mady (she/her) is a senior professorial lecturer in the Kogod School of Business at American University. Dr. Mady’s research and teaching interests are in the areas of multinationals’ adaptations to international environmental factors such as animosity, consumer acculturation, intercultural accommodations, ethics, and targeted marketing, with an emphasis on the service sector. Dr. Mady has published in the Journal of International Marketing, International Marketing Review, Journal of Services Marketing, Journal of Business and Industrial Marketing, and Journal of Euromarketing. She teaches a range of undergraduate and graduate Marketing and International Business courses. Mady serves on several committees and task forces promoting DEI amongst Kogod and AU stakeholders in areas such as curriculum development and assessment, inclusive excellence in promotion and reappointment, as well as faculty development.

Moderators

Betty Feng is an Associate Professor of International Business at Farmingdale State College (SUNY). Her research includes intercultural interactions and cross-cultural management of global firms. She is particularly interested in the cultural factors of cognition, perception, and creativity at the individual and organizational levels. With published articles in the Journal of Business Review, Management and Organization Review, Journal of Teaching in International Business, and other outlets, she also published several white-paper reports to support the international engagement of local businesses and economic development. Dr. Feng is currently serving as DEI coordinator at the Teaching & Education SIG of AIB.

Ilke Kardes is currently an Associate Professor of International Business at Valdosta State University. She received multiple teacher excellence awards and recognitions. She is the Vice-chair, Communications at the Teaching & Education SIG of AIB. Previously, Dr. Kardes taught classes in International Business at the Institute of International Business and served as Research Director at the Center for International Business and Education Research (CIBER) at Georgia State University. Her research interests primarily focus on emerging markets, the middle class, cross-border e-commerce, digital business, and pedagogy in higher education. Her academic career and abilities have been shaped in different cultures, including the United States, Germany, and Turkey, over the years. Ilke is fluent in English, German, and Turkish.
