The Sonoco International Business Department, Darla Moore School of Business, University of South Carolina is seeking a candidate for an open-rank, professional track clinical faculty position in international business, to begin August 16, 2023.

The position requires either a doctoral degree in international business or a related field (plus the requisite number of years of relevant experience as provided by academic policy, depending on rank) or a master’s degree in a business-related field plus at least 6 years of international industry experience (for the rank of lecturer), plus competencies and expertise to teach effectively both undergraduate and graduate courses in international business. Specialty areas of particular interest include global marketing management, including topics such as foreign market entry strategy, B2B global marketing, social marketing in developing economies, digital marketing in global business, etc., coupled with, ideally, regional or country expertise, industry expertise, and/or design thinking expertise. All courses taught will be international in content. Specific courses may be thematic or functional focused, and may also include short-term study abroad programs. While this position focuses primarily on teaching, service and outreach activities will also be an important part of the role.  Professional engagement, consulting projects, and/or research activities to maintain the appropriate faculty qualifications status within the AACSB framework are expected.

 

The primary objective of the Sonoco International Business Department is to maintain its leading role in the development of high impact theory and research on global business. The department is unified by its interest in understanding the multinational enterprise and the sociopolitical and institutional context within which it is embedded. The department includes faculty with diverse disciplinary backgrounds. The department faculty include: Gerald McDermott (Chair), Joao Albino-Pimentel, Elisa Alvarez-Garrido, Dirk Brown, Nancy Buchan, Ken Erickson, Omrane Guedhami, David Hudgens, April Knill, Tatiana Kostova, Chuck Kwok, Sali Li, Stanislav Markus, Wolfgang Messner, Daniel Ostergaard, Kendall Roth, Andrew Spicer, Hildy Teegen, Marc van Essen, and Christopher Yenkey. The department faculty is consistently recognized as the most productive faculty in international business research (UT Dallas, JIBS) for the past 30+ years.

 

The Department offers an undergraduate international business major that has been ranked #1 for 24 consecutive years, and collaborative undergraduate international programs with Chinese University of Hong Kong, Universidad de Chile (FEN), ESSEC Business School, American University in Cairo, and a multi-undergraduate education alliance with ESSEC-Singapore, University of Mannheim, and FGV-EBAPE. Our flagship International MBA has been ranked in the top 3 international business programs in the country in the last 33 years. The department also offers a Master in International Business (MIB) program that includes dual degree options with other prominent universities including: Aalto University, Bocconi (Italy), ESCP-Paris (France), University of Mannheim (Germany), Shanghai Jiao Tong (China), and Koc University (Turkey). The MIB program has been recently ranked in the top 50 in the world by the Financial Times for Masters of Management programs.
