EditoriaL DEsk Reviews” (ELDERs) Development Workshop at the AIB UK and Ireland Chapter Conference

University of Glasgow, Adam Smith Business School

1      The aim of ELDERs Development Workshop

This paper development workshop is mainly targeted at junior authors and early career researchers. In addition to receiving developmental feedback, authors will also be provided with the opportunity to have a live conversation with selected senior editors and reviewers about their paper draft. In contrast to journal-specific paper development workshops (PDWs) where authors submit their papers to a particular target outlet, the purpose here is to engage with senior editors and reviewers from a broader range of the international business journal “tribes” and lifting the lid off the “black box” of editorship and associated reviewer perspectives.

2      Process

2.1     Authors submit paper:

Authors submit their paper draft by Thursday, 2 March 2023 using the ConfTool submission system (https://www.conftool.org/aibuki2023, select the “ELDERs” track). The conference organisers will handle the initial paper screening process. Although authors can indicate their preferred journals, the conference organisers will make a first assessment whether the manuscript falls within the remit of the journal and/or has potential to be developed in the direction of a particular journal. Selected manuscripts will be assigned to a journal editor and a reviewer.

2.2     Editor perspective:

The journal editor will look at the assigned manuscript as they normally would when a paper arrives their editorial mailbox. For the purposes of this workshop, the editor will provide authors with EditoriaL DEsk Review feedback, thus indicating whether they would send the paper out for review or not. They will briefly indicate the context and rationale for this decision, and what the authors may wish to consider before submitting the paper.

2.3     Reviewer perspective:

The selected manuscript will also be assigned to a discussant who is asked to provide more in-depth developmental feedback from a reviewer’s perspective. This feedback will be provided verbally in the ELDERs workshop with both the Editor and reviewer, representing a particular journal, being present.

3      Which journals and senior editorial leads are represented at the ELDERs workshop?
