Presenters

Madhu Viswanathan (B.Tech, Mechanical Engineering, IIT, Madras, 1985; Ph.D. (Marketing), University of Minnesota, 1990) is Professor of Marketing, College of Business Administration at Loyola Marymount University in 2019, and Professor Emeritus, Gies College of Business, University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign. His research programs are on measurement, and subsistence marketplaces, where he has authored several books including Measurement Error and Research Design (Sage, 2005), Enabling Consumer and Entrepreneurial Literacy in Subsistence Marketplaces (Springer, 2008), Subsistence Marketplaces (2013), and Bottom-Up Enterprise (2016). He pioneered the area of subsistence marketplaces, a bottom-up approach to poverty and marketplaces (www.business.illinois.edu/subsistence<http://www.business.illinois.edu/subsistence>), teaches courses on research methods, subsistence, and sustainability reaching thousands of students in-person and on-line, and founded and directs the Marketplace Literacy Project (www.marketplaceliteracy.org<http://www.marketplaceliteracy.org>), pioneering marketplace literacy education that has reached more than 100,000 women across four continents. He has received numerous awards and served on the Livelihoods Advisory Board of UNHCR.

Vanessa Hasse is an Assistant Professor of International Business at the Ivey Business School, Western University (Canada). Her primary research interests focus on exploring behavioral explanations for firm-level responses to performance feedback and crises in an international context, as well as the impact cultural and temporal dimensions have on managerial decision-making. Her research has been published in outlets such as the Academy of Management Journal, Global Strategy Journal, and more. She has received international recognition for her work, including the Best Dissertation Award in International Management at AOM. Dr. Hasse has authored several case studies and has been recognized as a management educator for her innovations in designing transformative learning experiences. She is the recipient of multiple teaching excellence awards and was named a finalist for the 2021 AIB Teaching Innovation Award

Marleen Dieleman is an associate professor at NUS Business School in Singapore. She holds an MSc degree from Erasmus University and a PhD from Leiden University, both in The Netherlands. Marleen’s research focuses on corporate strategy, in particular of Asian family business groups. She has published various academic articles, books and cases on this topic. She is interested in how family business groups are governed, how they operate in emerging market environments characterized by weak institutions, and how they diversify, innovate, professionalize and internationalize over time. Marleen is a passionate educator and she won multiple teaching awards at the National University of Singapore. She teaches corporate strategy and family business across all levels, including BBA, MBA and executive programs.


Moderator

Daria Panina is a Clinical Associate Professor in Management at Mays Business School, Texas A&M University, USA. She holds Ph.D. and M.A. from Rutgers University, USA; MBA from American Institute of Business and Economics, Russia; and B.A. from Moscow State University, Russia. She teaches international business and management courses at both the undergraduate and graduate levels and directs several Study Abroad programs annually. Dr. Panina does research in the areas of cross-cultural skills and global competencies development.
