PRESENTER

Ioannis Ioannou is a Professor, an Advisor, and a Keynote Speaker on Sustainability Leadership and Corporate Responsibility. Through his award-winning academic work, advisory roles, teaching, and engagement with executives, he focuses on understanding whether, how, and the extent to which companies and capital markets can lead on the path toward a sustainable future. More specifically, Prof. Ioannou is regarded as a leading authority on how companies strategically integrate environmental, social, and governance (ESG) factors into their processes and structures and how the investment community perceives, evaluates and reacts to such corporate attempts to integrate ESG. Ioannis graduated magna cum laude from Yale University, majoring in Economics and Mathematics, and holds a Ph.D. in Business Economics from Harvard University and the Harvard Business School. He is currently Associate Professor of Strategy and Entrepreneurship at London Business School. Prof. Ioannou regularly publishes in top-tier peer-reviewed academic journals and he is the most highly cited Strategy scholar amongst his graduating cohort. He is currently serving as an Associate Editor at Strategic Management Journal.

COMMENTATORS

Kristin Brandl is an Associate Professor in International Business at the Peter B. Gustavson School of Business, University of Victoria, Canada. She has held visiting research positions at the Fox School of Business, Temple University, Philadelphia, USA and Saïd Business School, University of Oxford, UK. Prior to joining UVic, she worked as Lecturer/Assistant Professor at Henley Business School, University of Reading, UK. She is a 2021/2022 Fellow at the Center for Global Studies, University of Victoria. Dr. Brandl’s research studies the impact of (national and supranational) policy and institutions on global business environments and firm strategy. She is particularly interested in developing countries and how these internal and external factors impact their development processes. She also examines global knowledge sourcing, especially related to service and innovation activities, i.e., she examines international services management and innovation with a focus on production processes, characteristics, structures, and value propositions (Global Value Chains).

Elizabeth Napier is an Assistant Professor of Marketing and International Business at the University of Toledo. Her research focuses on the investigation of multinational firms and their interaction with local economies and environments. The topics she is most interested in are corporate social responsibility (CSR), international business ethics, global business strategy, and the internationalization of the firm. With degrees in Anthropology (BA) and International Business (MA), she has a unique understanding of what motivates both individuals and firms. She is especially interested in multinational firm performance, unique partnerships, and their impact on the host country’s environmental and financial resources. Specifically, by understanding how multinational firms utilize explicit and tacit knowledge, she hopes to build theory that can support employee innovation and environmental sustainability.

Jingtao Yi is a professor of economics, School of Business, Renmin University of China, P. R. China. His research interests lie at internationalization strategy, emerging market multinationals, innovation and international business, and international business in the digital economy, with a focus on platform ecosystems, platform competition, and globalization. His work has been published in Journal of International Business Studies, Journal of Management, and Journal of Management Studies, among others.

MODERATORS

Dana Minbaeva is a Professor of Human Resource Management at King’s Business School. King’s College of London, UK. She also has a part-time appointment at Copenhagen Business School, Denmark. Her research on strategic and international HRM has appeared in such top international journals as Academy of Management Review, Journal of International Business Studies, Journal of Management Studies, Human Resource Management, and many others. Professor Minbaeva published over 70 articles in international peer reviewed journals, numerous book chapters and reports.  She received several national and international awards to research achievements, including the prestigious JIBS Decade Award 2013. Professor Minbaeva is a Fellow of the Academy of International Business (AIB).

Rosalie L. Tung is the Ming and Stella Wong Professor of International Business at Simon Fraser University (Canada). She has served as the 2017-2020 Dean of the Fellows, Academy of International Business, the 2015-2016 President of the Academy of International Business, and the 2003-2004 President of the Academy of Management. She was formerly a Wisconsin Distinguished Professor with the University of Wisconsin System, and has also served on the faculties of the Wharton School (University of Pennsylvania), and the University of Oregon. She is an elected Fellow of:  the Academy of Management; the British Academy of Management; the International Academy for Intercultural Research; and the Royal Society of Canada.
