We are looking for:
The Field Environmental Coordinator (FEC) is a field resource for environmental issues and questions that arise in the day-to-day operations of Distribution, Operations, Engineering, Transmission, Gas Compression and Storage and the Business Services organizations. The FEC reports to Environmental Quality and Sustainability and provides support to other groups including Legal and Training. Their primary responsibility is to perform preventative controls to reduce/manage compliance risk and maintain environmental compliance requirements.

  *   Bachelor’s degree in General Science (biology, chemistry, environmental, etc.) or Engineering. Less than a bachelor’s degree may be acceptable if accompanied by extensive Company or industry experience in positions that demonstrate required abilities and performance
  *   5+ years of experience, or equivalent, in environmental/ government compliance is preferred
  *   Able to become certified/licensed in HAZWOPER, as an asbestos inspector, asbestos supervisor, industrial storm water operator, construction storm water operator, and safe drinking water operator
  *   Have the willingness to work unusual hours and respond to calls 24/7

  *   Have experience with Microsoft Office Suite and SAP
  *   Self-starter that can manage competing work assignments
  *   Have strong written and oral communication, organizational, analytical, and negotiating skills
  *   Working relationships with Federal and State regulatory agencies is preferred
  *   Energy industry related experience is preferred

In this role, you will:

  *   Manage the regulated and universal waste generated at each facility and gas/electric jobsites (including testing, scheduling and disposal, use of approved vendors and waste segregation)
  *   Respond to polluting material releases in the field 24/7 and provide field assistance as needed
  *   Assist with the creation of spill prevention and control countermeasures (SPCC) and maintain the plans through inspections, inventories, training, on site spill response and administrative updates to reflect site changes
  *   Perform environmental site inspections
  *   Work with Environmental Quality and Sustainability System Matter Experts, alerting them to issues in the field they may be unaware of and clarifying our understanding of regulatory requirements in unusual situations we encounter
  *   Reduce the likelihood of compliance violations which can lead to fines and penalties
  *   Manage compliance within the Right to Know program
  *   Compliance with Superfund Amendments and Reauthorization Act (SARA) Title III reporting through inventories and agency reporting
  *   Respond as needed to soil and groundwater issues at various locations
  *   Maintain storm water compliance with inspections at various locations and projects
  *   Respond to Hazardous Waste Operations & Emergency Response (HAZWOPER) issues which have the potential to impact worker health & safety at construction sites and carry significant penalties for noncompliance
  *   Provide communication to utility customers
  *   Support storm response and storm restoration efforts, including spill response, clean ups, and      contractor management
  *   Lead discussions/make presentations in zone manager meetings, with project management groups (substations, network services, facilities, etc.)
  *   Offer logistical support to environmental services at remediation sites other than service centers
  *    Escorting contracted compliance auditors for site audits
  *   Comply with all toxic substances control act (TSCA) requirements that pertain to PCBs and conduct grid sampling when required for releases
  *   Respond to agency visits (EGLE/LARA/EPA/DNR etc.) and inquiries

Hours and Travel:
This position requires the individual work a minimum of 40 hours per week with much of your time spent at work headquarters in your area or specific field locations. Daily travel throughout Southwest Michigan is an essential part of the position. Candidate will be expected to work nights and weekends from time to time. Overnight stays may be required on a limited basis during storm events. This position requires the willingness to respond to calls 24/7, as needed.
