Are you interested in working with recruiters? Do you like helping other students? Are you looking for an amazing position that creates connections in The School of Hospitality Business?  If your answer is “YES!” to these questions, SIRC might be the right position for you!

 

The Student and Industry Resource Center “SIRC” is currently looking for high-energy, team-oriented Hospitality Business students that will strive to help students in their professional development, and involvement in The School.  Interested candidates should bring a resume to the SIRC office, and be prepared for a short preliminary interview by a SIRC team member.  SIRC (416 Eppley Center) M-F 9:00am- 4:00pm. 

 

What is SIRC? Over 40+ years ago The School of hospitality Business established the SIRC career center to assist the hospitality industry in connecting with MSU hospitality students seeking internships and full time management jobs. SIRC is supported by a million-dollar endowment to ensure that this effort is an ongoing priority!

 

Job Description: SIRC Assists with the following –

  1. Receptionist for SIRC and The School of Hospitality Business: Basic office work, phones, filing, mail and word processing.
  2. Hospitality Career Exploration: Work with students to explore career options through internship preparation, classroom announcements, and visiting with industry professionals.
  3. Jobs and Internships: Work directly with hospitality industry companies and recruiters daily to identify internships and permanent job opportunities for students. Through an online job board called the Job Alert Bulletin we provide instant access to job openings in the industry. SIRC also coordinates on-campus recruiting for employers by setting up Open Houses and interviews  for companies interested in hiring our students.
  4. Professional Development: You will help students learn about business correspondence, practices, and how to present a professional image. Some of the topics we cover include: resume content and design; cover letters; thank you letters; rejecting, accepting comparing offers; professional dress; dining in a business setting; and interviewing skills. You might also have the opportunity to participate in hospitality industry trade shows and professional development tours and workshops.
  5. CAREER EXPO: Our longstanding annual fall hospitality career fair is led by the SIRC staff.  With 80+ hospitality companies coming to MSU to recruit students from The School, SIRC arranges Professional Development Programs, student one on one interviews and hosts an Open House Meet and Greet for students and employers.    
  6. Spartan Sponsors: SIRC assists students to connect with alumni industry leaders that serve as mentors. SIRC manages the kickoff and coordinates structured contacts and conversations throughout the year.
