Join us in conversation with industry experts as we explore the impact of formalisation on Africa’s informal sector. |
Will formalisation stifle or liberate Africa’s entrepreneurs? |
|
The vast majority of Africa’s population works in the informal sector, whether as business owners, small traders, casual employees, or farmers.
For decades, supranational institutions and individual national governments have sought to reduce informality, arguing that formalisation will benefit these actors by offering access to state support and public goods. Others argue that formalisation will simply
stifle the most vibrant part of the economy and be a burden to entrepreneurs. Our distinguished panel explores the various sides of this controversy. |
