Subject: NSF Funded MS Program - Recruiting Applicants - DEIJ & Environmental Research Related to Baltimore Harbor
Dear Colleagues:
Please spread the word about our NSF funded master’s degree program<https://urldefense.com/v3/__https:/icare.umbc.edu/icare-masters-degree/__;!!HXCxUKc!3icetkpFqH1n84I0FeXEV8E3pTqYZ-5ucv0y9_n2yDaE122HinqhTFuJVsXAmUcCX1UuLvqGNKDHOvL2gA$> known as ICARE (Interdisciplinary Consortium for Applied Research in the Environment). The main goals of the program are increasing diversity in the environmental workforce and community-engaged environmental research in and around the Baltimore Harbor. We are now accepting applications for our third cohort of students that will begin in Fall 2023. The target date for applications is January 1, 2023. This will be the final cohort funded by our current NSF grant.

Student Benefits Include:
· $34,000 annual stipend, full tuition coverage, fees, & health insurance.
· Up to $7,500 in research expenses.
· Mentoring and networking with employers across the environmental sector.
Graduate students in our program follow a two-year schedule that includes a series of professional and disciplinary courses, plus a research project that will comprise their master’s thesis. For the research project, students will be mentored by a team that includes at least one faculty member and one partner practitioner working on projects related to the Baltimore Harbor and surrounding environments.

Students should apply to any of the five main departments at UMBC affiliated with the program: Biological Sciences; Chemical, Biochemical and Environmental Engineering; Geography and Environmental Systems; Marine Estuarine Environmental Sciences; or the School of Public Policy. They should also separately complete a short application to the ICARE program, available to view on our website here: https://icare.umbc.edu/application/<https://urldefense.com/v3/__https:/icare.umbc.edu/application/__;!!HXCxUKc!3icetkpFqH1n84I0FeXEV8E3pTqYZ-5ucv0y9_n2yDaE122HinqhTFuJVsXAmUcCX1UuLvqGNKDOeegw7A$>.

Here is a link to a series of slides<https://urldefense.com/v3/__https:/icare.umbc.edu/home/faculty-research/__;!!HXCxUKc!3icetkpFqH1n84I0FeXEV8E3pTqYZ-5ucv0y9_n2yDaE122HinqhTFuJVsXAmUcCX1UuLvqGNKBSTTGpQw$> that describes what each of the ICARE faculty do especially with respect to the ICARE master's program.
