Call for Papers: Land and Sustainable Food Transformations

Dear colleagues,

This Elementa special issue invites articles exploring the role of land in sustainable food transformations. The forthcoming collection provides new understandings on how governance of land (property relations, land access, land tenure, landscape policy) mediates the potential for food system transformations. The special issue goes beyond understanding dynamics of the land food nexus to ask how land relations can be reformed to create favorable conditions for more just and sustainable food systems to emerge. A call for proposals can be found here.

This issue invites a range of papers (review articles, original research, commentary) to explore how land politics influence food system transformation pathways. In general, the special issue will critique how existing property regimes hinder food system transformations and explore the way alternative land regimes shape food system outcomes. The issue has a geographical emphasis on the ‘Global North’ but encourages Global South—North food system co-learning on alternative land governance for food systems change.

The deadline to submit an abstract is January 14^th, 2023 and the anticipated deadline for full paper submission is April 28^th, 2023.  

All proposed papers (abstracts) will be screened to assess the fit with the special issue and to achieve geographical and thematic balance.
