The Huron-Manistee National Forest is filling eight permanent seasonal GS-5 biological science (wildlife) technician positions across the Forest. Position Summary
The Huron-Manistee National Forest is filling 8 permanent seasonal wildlife technician positions, with 2 positions in each of the following locations: Baldwin, MI; Mio, MI; Oscoda, MI; and Wellston, MI.  These are 18/8 positions, with 18 pay periods (36 weeks) in paid status, and 8 pay periods (16 weeks) in non-pay status each year.  These are being hired at the GS-5 pay grade ($17/31/hour), with a target grade of GS-6, meaning the individual may be promoted to GS-6 ($19.29/hour) after 1 year of successful performance.  These positions are eligible for federal employee benefits, including retirement contribution and health insurance.

Duties for these positions include surveys and monitoring of endangered, threatened, and sensitive wildlife species and their habitats; leading wildlife habitat improvement projects; preparing and administering wildlife habitat improvement contracts; and other duties as assigned.  Focal species on the Huron-Manistee NF include the Kirtland’s warbler, Eastern massasauga rattlesnake, Karner Blue Butterfly, piping plover, northern goshawk, rare turtles, and more.
