CALL FOR APPLICATIONS: JIBP Editorship

The Executive Board of the Academy of International Business (AIB) is seeking an Editor-in-Chief (EIC) for the Journal of International Business Policy (JIBP). The successful candidate will be a scholar with an established profile and strong reputation in the field of international business policy. The new EIC will start processing new manuscripts on July 1, 2023, and be fully responsible for all editorial activities starting January 1, 2024. The official term for the next EIC is January 1, 2024, to December 31, 2026, following the second term of the founding EIC Sarianna Lundan.

The selection of the EIC consists of a two-stage process. Initial applications are due by June 20, 2022. The Board will select and inform the finalists by August 15, 2022, and will request the submission of full proposals by October 1. The requirements for each stage of the application process are provided in the FAQ below. The selection of the EIC will be made by January 1, 2023, to allow for a six-month editorial team preparation period.

As EIC of JIBP, the AIB’s flagship policy publication, the successful candidate has a major influence on the journal’s standing in the international academic community and the global impact of the AIB. In line with the AIB’s mission, vision, and values, the EIC is responsible for ensuring that JIBP remains open to the full diversity of scholars and scholarship in the international business policy field, including cognate disciplines, and does not become dominated by a particular perspective or approach to international business scholarship.

The EIC is responsible for the content and organization of JIBP, management of the manuscript review and selection process, adherence to the AIB’s Codes of Ethics, and establishment of a working relationship with the journal’s publisher (Springer). The EIC provides the public face of the journal and is responsible for communications and travel to promote the journal, as appropriate. The EIC reports to the AIB Executive Board and attends the Board’s annual meeting. Major policy decisions for JIBP are the responsibility of the AIB Executive Board, while the management of the journal is the responsibility of the EIC. The AIB Executive Secretariat staffs a full-time Managing Editor of JIBP who is responsible for the Manuscript Central online submission and management system, including the processing of manuscripts and communication between authors, reviewers, editors, and publisher.

The EIC is responsible for forming an editorial team, and has discretion over the team’s structure, roles, and the editor who will fill each role. The current EIC, Sarianna Lundan, has a half-time Editorial Assistant at her own university. Financially, the AIB will contribute resources to the EIC for non-personnel expenses directly related to the operation of the journal editorial (e.g., travel, supplies, etc.). The expectation is that the EIC’s university will contribute resources (such as release-time, part-time assistant, etc.) to make the EIC’s editorial term successful, and the EIC’s university will be acknowledged in the journal.

All inquiries should be directed to Tunga Kiyak, AIB Executive Director (Email: [log in to unmask]), who co-chairs the JIBP Editor Selection Committee with the AIB President-Elect, Maria Tereza Fleury. Please submit applications by June 20, 2022, via email to Tunga Kiyak at [log in to unmask].
