GM SIG Significant Contributions to Global Marketing Award

The Global Marketing SIG is pleased to announce that Nicole Coviello, the inaugural Lazaridis Chair of International Entrepreneurship and Innovation at Wilfrid Laurier University’s Lazaridis School of Business and Economics, is the recipient of the 2022 Significant Contributions to Global Marketing Award.

The Significant Contributions Award honors a scholar who has contributed significantly to the field of global marketing. A panel of past winners of the Significant Contributions award, current and past editors/co-editors of the Journal of International Marketing, and other distinguished academics appointed by the board of directors of the AMA Global Marketing SIG selected the winner. This year’s selection committee for the Award was comprised of Adamantios Diamantopoulos (University of Vienna and Committee Chair), Katrijn Gielens (University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill), and Ayºegül Özsomer (Koç University).

Professor Coviello has contributed to the field of international marketing for over four decades. Her research focus has been mostly on the international entrepreneurship and innovation areas and has become one of the most impactful scholars in the field of international marketing. She has amassed an impressive record of publications, accumulating more than 20,000 Google Scholar citations. Not only is she widely published and cited, but her research also demonstrates a high degree of relevance, theoretical and methodological rigor, and creativity.

Her contributions to the international marketing field are substantive, with multiple metrics of support. In 2014, Dr. Coviello was ranked as the number two scholar worldwide for International Marketing. She was also ranked eighteenth in the world for International Business, the only female in the ‘top 20’ list for that discipline. She is a two-time recipient of the Gerald E. Hills Award bestowed by the AMA’s Entrepreneurial Marketing Special Interest Group. In 2021, she was ranked in the top 1% of business and management scholars in the world based on impact. In addition to her scholarly work in international marketing, Dr. Coviello has served as a role model and mentor to a generation of female international marketing scholars.

The Global Marketing SIG thanks the selection committee for all their hard work in determining the winner and for everyone who nominated a very worthy slate of scholars for the award. The Significant Contributions Award will be presented at the 2022 AMA Global Marketing Conference in Crete, Greece. Please join us in offering congratulations to Nicole Coviello for her outstanding contribution to the global marketing field.
