Title: Department Technician - Southwest Michigan (Field)

Salary:  $19.86 - 27.27 hourly/Posted Thru:  4-13-2022

Work Location: Southwest Michigan (potential for some statewide travel)

Type: Full Time/40 Hours per week

Purpose: This Department Technician position is primarily responsible for distribution and installation of water filters and health education materials to residents of lead impacted communities in southwest Michigan.  This position may also be required to distribute health education and communication materials throughout Michigan.  Day to day interaction with residents, equipment suppliers, contractors, and other stakeholders may be a routine part of this job. The person in this position will work closely with the Sanitarians, Managers, residents, and other partners. A larger area of operation or statewide travel may become necessary as projects progress. This position is essential in building and maintaining the relationship between the Division of Environmental Health (DEH) and residents and other stakeholders in southwest Michigan.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Duty 1: Field Work. (60%)

  *   Deploy or otherwise assist with the deployment of consumer grade point of use faucet mount and pitcher filters in Southwest Michigan.
  *   Provide education to residents, contractors, local government officials and other stakeholders on the appropriate care and use of water filters.
  *   Distribute health education or other materials such as door hangers, pamphlets, flyers and other similar hardcopy materials to residents, local government officials and other stakeholders.
  *   Communicate with residents, contractors, local government officials and other stakeholders on topics related to water filters and other community health related topics as those topics are associated with drinking water.
  *   Collaborate with internal MDHHS partners related to programs and services offered as part of the public health effort in southwest Michigan.
  *   Attend and participate in meetings with other MDHHS staff other local, state, and federal employees, residents and stakeholders as requested.

 Duty 2: Data tracking and reporting (30%)

  *   Collaborate with other program staff in the tracking of inventory and work progress.
  *   Track or otherwise assist with the tracking of progress in distributing filters and communication materials.
  *   Enter data into field forms (hardcopy and/or electronic), spreadsheets and databases as requested.
  *   Complete and maintain accurate field notes and other records as requested.
  *   Provided timely and accurate updates to data tracking processes.
  *   Complete or otherwise assist with the completion of time-sensitive reports and review of documents as assigned.

 Duty 3: Training and other duties. (10%)

  *   Participates in web-based meetings and trainings as scheduled.
  *   Completes any training required by MDHHS.
  *   Develops and implements trainings as needed.
  *   Always represent the best interests of MDHHS and MPHI.
  *   All other duties as assigned.



Qualifications/Requirements

Education: Completion of high school. Associates degree or applicable military experience preferred.

Experience:   No specific experience is required however preference will be given to candidates with familiarity of southwest Michigan.  Experience in the drinking water industry or plumbing is preferred.
