Dear Friends,

In the end they always win (the microbes I mean)... That's the undeniable
fact of our existence.

But, in an unscientific and entirely anecdotal poll, we're learning that
composters are more at peace with their own mortality and with the
ephemeral nature of organic matter in general. (Both living and nonliving).
Makes sense right?

Yet another reason, as if you needed one, to hone your composting skills
with us at The 131° School of Composting. And although it is impossible to
steer entirely clear of the more esoteric underpinnings of our trade, we do
our best, focussing on the science, practice, and art of compost making (in
truth it's pretty hard to deal with the deeper stuff without getting a
little teared up).

Getting serious now, here's what we've got for you:

   1.

Our first session of The 131° School’s Compost Operator Certificate is
live and session two is open for pre-registration, running May-June. The
class is an online training program focused on best practices for food
scrap composting and is led by me (James McSweeney), author of
Community-Scale
Composting Systems (included with the class). The course is designed for
any-size operation above the home-scale (commercial, on-farm, municipal,
on-site). Learn more and register here

   .

   1.

One of the most valuable and popular parts of our trainings are the
presentations and discussions we have with compost site operators. In order
to share these discussions with a wider audience, we have created a no-cost
course called our Operator Discussion Series. Every 2-4 months, we plan
to rotate in a new video, and the course is live today!

Check out the discussion we had last year with Tom Gilbert of Black Dirt
Farm! <https://www.the131school.com/courses/operator-discussion-series> You
won’t want to miss this, Tom is not only an expert in composting systems
and operations, he is a thought leader and an inspiration. (upcoming guests
include Karl Hammer of Vermont Compost Company and Domingo Medina of Peels
and Wheels Composting).

Sharing and forwarding of this announcement to your colleagues and networks
is extremely appreciated! News of the school spreading by word-of-mouth
will allow us to focus on teaching, not marketing, keeping the school
affordable for all.

course homepage <https://www.the131school.com/>, and please feel free to

Thermophilically Yours,

           James and The 131° Team
