Colleagues,

We are hiring a full-time, permanent Fish Management Technician in our work unit, the Inland Fisheries Research Unit. This position will contribute to advancing inland fisheries management and research by completing the following job duties:

1. Constructing, maintaining, & repairing work unit vehicles, vessels, & other equipment, including fish sampling equipment; completing inventory control & fleet reports.
2. Conducting field assessments & research surveys of inland reservoir, inland streams & rivers, & Ohio River aquatic communities & anglers; compiling & collating biological data; entering data into databases.
3. Assisting other agency fisheries management staff, hatchery research staff, university research partners, & other state agency staff in shared assessment & research responsibilities; assisting others with vessel, vehicle, & other equipment maintenance & repair.
4. Attending meetings, conferences, & in-service trainings; participating in planning; working individually or as part of a team.
5. Providing information to the public; responding to routine public inquiries; operating passenger vehicles, pickup trucks, & tows boats.

Minimum qualifications include:
Completion of associate core program in fisheries science to include 1 course in chemistry; valid driver's license.

—Or—24 months experience conducting fish management surveys, data collection, operating fish sampling equipment & implementing fish management strategies; valid driver's license.

—Or—equivalent of Minimum Class Qualifications For Employment noted above.

Knowledge of fish management practices; biology; zoology; chemistry. Skill in use & operation of fish survey equipment; operation of motor boats, power & hand tools. Ability to deal with problems involving several variables within familiar context; gather, collate & classify information; lift 50 lbs.

This is a classified, bargaining unit position (20058779) with compensation starting at $18.84/hour and includes access to the state benefits package.
