I’m looking to fill a MS position assessing Hybrid Striped Bass behavior ecology and population dynamics in one of Iowa’s largest reservoirs using acoustic telemetry (see below and attached).  Start date is flexible, sometime between May and August.

MS Graduate Assistantship in Fisheries Biology

Iowa State University, Dept. of Natural Resource Ecology and Management



Responsibilities:  The successful MS applicant will be responsible for conducting research evaluating movement dynamics, harvest, survival, and escapement of Hybrid Striped Bass in Lake Rathbun, IA. The student will work closely with other graduate students and Iowa DNR biologists to collect field data and develop complimentary thesis research projects. The student will be responsible for developing and maintaining databases, data analysis, writing annual reports, and publishing manuscripts.



Qualification:  B.S. degree in fisheries or related field and fisheries fieldwork experience. Candidates with excellent organization skills, written and oral communication, analytical and critical thinking skills, and the ability to meet deadlines are preferred. Applicants must be highly motivated and demonstrate a strong work ethic. Previous experience using acoustic telemetry and analyzing capture-recapture data is preferred but not required.



Start date: May-August 2022.

Salary:  ~$25,000/year, benefits and 50% tuition waiver
