AIB's newly formed Emerging Markets Shared Interest Group (EM-SIG) is pleased to announce the launch of the 2022 Emerging Scholars from Emerging Markets Program (ESEMP). ESEMP is a two-year program with the aim to support doctoral students and early career doctorated scholars from emerging markets in creating high-quality international business research. This project is made by possible by the Center for Emerging Markets at Northeastern University.

Why is ESEMP important:
Scholars from emerging markets too often do not get the chance to learn from and engage with leading academics in the IB field. This program aims to support young and early career scholars to hone their research skills by providing them with the chance to engage with AIB Fellows and leading academics in the field.

ESEMP is a program to support scholars from emerging markets in creating research and academic papers for submission to AIB conferences and journals. Furthering that aim, top ESEMP scholars will receive financial support to attend AIB Annual Meetings.

What is included in ESEMP:
· The program includes ten workshops (five workshops per year) and will run over two years.
. Workshops are 4-hours long and include interactive sessions with AIB Fellows and IB experts.
· ESEMP scholars must prepare for these workshops, contribute to the discussions, and submit deliverables.
· Participation in ESEMP is free of charge, and participants will be given full AIB membership for the two years they participate in ESEMP.
· After the first year, ESEMP scholars will be evaluated on their progress in the program and invited to proceed to the next year if satisfactory progress is made.

Who is ESEMP for:
Applications are considered from PhD/doctoral students and early career scholars/doctorated faculty who want to upgrade their research skills.
Students and scholars need to be affiliated with an academic institution in a low, lower-middle, or upper-middle-income country (see more information on our website<https://emsig.aib.world/about/>).

When and how is ESEMP facilitated:
Workshops will be offered via zoom. ESEMP participants will be distinguished into two cohorts (EAST and WEST) to accommodate different time zones.

ESEMP East 2022 will be conducted from 7 am to 11 am GMT on the following Thursdays: March 24, May 26, July 28, September 29, November 24
ESEMP West 2022 will be conducted from 1 pm to 5 pm GMT on the following Thursdays: March 24, May 26, July 28, October 6, December 1

Dates for sessions in 2023 will be communicated to ESEMP participants during the program.

How to apply for ESEMP:
Interested scholars should submit their applications online via the website<https://emsig.aib.world/emerging-scholars-from-emerging-markets-program/> by March 1st, 2022. Results of the application will be communicated to the applicant by March 11th, 2022.
Applicants need to provide:
· A current CV
· A letter of motivation (max 1-page) explaining why they want to participate in the program.
· An extended abstract of a current research project (max. 3-pages, excluding references). This project can be a PhD thesis or parts thereof for doctoral students or a research paper for doctorated faculty.
· A letter of reference from the PhD/doctoral supervisor or a senior colleague (for doctorated faculty) at the institution to which they are affiliated
· A declaration in which applicants confirm that they understand that ESEMP is a 2-year program, that they will be expected to not only participate in, but also prepare for the workshops, and that any absences need to be communicated to the organizers in advance

Participation in ESEMP is free, and participants will be given full AIB membership for the two years during which they participate in ESEMP. However, selection into ESEMP is competitive, and participants will be assessed at the end of the first year to determine their continued eligibility for the program. The board of the EM-SIG will make final decisions.
